Lire les heures : moins 10, moins le quart
We are coming up on the part of reading the time and the least obvious. Thus, it is better to master the other skills before approaching this video. This means reading the minutes before the next hour: minus twenty-five, minus twenty, etc. Managing multiple pieces of information is an obstacle for many students: they have to locate the next hour, the positioning of the minute hand, then the complement to 60 and organize the answer in the right order. However, finding the complement to 60 may not be necessary if the student learns the 5 by heart, but it is still good math practice. I introduce 'minus twenty-five' while noting that it is not used in all areas. Similarly, you can hear 'it's two minutes to nine' but I focused on rounding to multiples of 5. In general, for these videos on time, I rounded the minutes to avoid confusion.
