We follow the journey of five asylum seekers in Canada who fled their home countries to escape homophobic violence. Facing the difficulties of integration and fearing deportation, they anxiously await the decision that will change their lives. But they all want to believe in the generosity of their host country. These moving portraits show us the reality of immigrants coming to Canada. These stories also allow us to divulge the harsh reality that some people experience in their countries. Discrimination is a subject that can be experienced and sharing these testimonials can help develop skills such as empathy and open-mindedness. These portraits are great examples to use in Social Studies in the area of identity in Canada and Canada's place in the world. This story is a great platform for discussion to develop critical thinking, problem solving and global citizenship skills.
