Le rêve de Champlain - Iroquoisie 1608 - 1616
In the spring of 1608, after facing a difficult winter, Champlain engaged in a military campaign against the Iroquois, enemies of his own native allies. At the end of 1610, upon his return to France, Champlain received terrible news. His most powerful supporter, King Henry IV, had been assassinated. He must now work behind the scenes to advance his project. Champlain managed to leave for New France in March 1611. He travelled the Ottawa River where he met Tessouat, a chief whose reputation rivalled his own in the St. Lawrence Valley.
