Irene Gladstone-Epstein was born in Poland in 1922. She immigrated to Montreal in 1935 with her mother and siblings.

Ellen Samuel was born in Germany in 1926. Her life and childhood were dramatically altered by the Nazis' rise to power. She immigrated to Canada in 1955.

Edgar Lion was born in Austria in 1920. In 1940, he was arrested and interned by the British as an enemy, along with other Austrians and Germans.

Sarah Engelhard was born in Germany in 1932 and grew up in France. In 1942, her family fled to Spain.

Lou Zablow was born in Lodz, Poland, in 1924. In 1939, the Nazis invaded Poland. In 1940, he and his mother were forced to move into the ghettos. In 1944, he was deported to Auschwitz.
