While Nia learns how to rescue a person trapped in a tower, Cedric tells her about the time he met his friend the troll, Grogne, and they managed to escape the clutches of a sneaky witch.

Nia's jousting lesson prompts Cedric to tell her about his first tournament as an apprentice knight, and to explain why one should never underestimate one's opponent.

As she discovers how to follow a trail in the forest, Nia hears the story of the time when Cedric and Grogne had to hide in a cave to escape a yeti. Thanks to their ingenuity, they managed to escape the monster and understand the cause of its fury.

As a member of the royal family, Nia must learn the importance of generosity. Cedric recalls the time he and Grogne were captured by a greedy giant, forcing them to ask for help from a magic flute.

Cédric and Grogne enter the Black Castle in search of a map that can lead them to the bridge of Grogne. In the absence of a map, they meet Saylor, a messenger crow, and try to escape from the dragon that secretly lives in the castle.

Cedric, Groan and Saylor go to the royal court to warn the king and queen of the dragon's presence. When a magician freezes all the members of the court, it's up to the trio to try and stop her.

Nia's curiosity about the Serpent River leads to the story of the time when Cedric, Grumble and Saylor were sailing towards their next adventure when a sea monster sank their boat.

Nia discovers how important it is to believe in yourself as Cedric tells her a story involving a dragon's egg, a mysterious potion master and a newt spitting lava.

While she receives a call for help from a carrot field, Nia listens to the story of the time when Cedric, Grunts and Saylor had to save a city from the clutches of a Big Bad Wolf more misunderstood than threatening.

Nia is discouraged by her responsibilities as an apprentice knight. Cédric explains that he, too, was at his wits' end when a group of unruly elves invaded a peaceful town.

Cedric, Grunts and Saylor finally face the dragon that has made a mess of the kingdom. Armed with luck and a clever charade, they manage to escape him and continue their quest.

The heroic trio finally arrives at the Bridge of Grumble. In a high-stakes duel, Grogne must use ingenuity rather than strength to recover his bridge from the hands of Cogne, the awful troll who stole it from him.
