On September 11, 2001, at 8:46 a.m., an airliner crashed into one of the twin towers of the World Trade Center in the heart of New York City. While the event was already being broadcast live around the world, a second plane crashed into the South Tower, followed by two others into the Pentagon and Pennsylvania. In total, nearly 3000 people lost their lives and more than 6000 were injured.
