In the 90s, the resurgence of moko was also encouraged by Kapa Haka (traditional song and dance) shows. Piri Sciscia was the only Kapa Haka performer to wear a real, leg-sized moko (puhoro) on stage. This had a resounding effect in the community, as at the time it was customary for performances to wear make-up on the motifs.
