Le coeur au galop
Sylvie Leboeuf has horses tattooed on her heart. Since 2008, Sylvie has been a volunteer at Refuge RR in Alexandria. Founded in 1990 by Rose Gergely, Refuge RR rescues abused, neglected and abandoned horses, cares for them and finds them foster homes. Today, Refuge RR (Refuge et Réhabilitation) is Canada's largest horse sanctuary.
Sylvie, who is trained in equine massage therapy, devotes her free time to helping Rose and caring for Refuge RR's 80 horses. Sylvie, along with a team of volunteers, invites us on a tour of the Refuge and guides us through her daily tasks.
The mission of the Refuge and its volunteers is very clear: to create a place for abused or unloved horses to be safe for the rest of their lives, while at the same time raising public awareness of the cruel practices often used in different sectors of the equine industry.
In Oxford County, Ontario, we meet John Wilson, the family patriarch. John will show us around his farm and introduce us to his Canadian horses. The Canadian horse is considered an endangered heritage breed.
