Raconte-moi la Grande Guerre - Les frontières
What were the territorial consequences of the First World War? Find out in this episode with Martin Laberge, professor at the Université du Québec en Outaouais. On the eve of World War I, the borders of the Old Continent were vastly different from those we know today. This was also the case for political systems, as democratic regimes were not the rule. The Treaty of Versailles, which officially ended the conflict on June 28, 1919, redefined the borders of certain countries. The Russian, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires saw their territories shattered, France expanded, Germany was cut in two and new countries appeared. Without realizing it, the conditions were being created for the next world conflict.
