Raconte-moi la Grande Guerre - Les enfants
In this episode, Bruno Cabanes, professor at Ohio State University, explains the role played by children during the First World War. While today's society tries to protect children from the consequences of war, in 1914 children were part of the conflict. The departure of the soldiers to the front forces them to participate more in the daily tasks at home. They also contributed to the war effort via small acts of resistance in the occupied territories, in France, or by monitoring the sea and air routes, in England. The participation of children in the conflict will have consequences when the soldiers return. It will also forge, among war orphans, a conscience which will help to create the pacifism of the interwar period.
