Raconte-moi la Grande Guerre - Le Canada dans le conflit

Teaching Tools

World War I began in Europe, but it wasn't long before Canada had to join in, following the British Empire into a conflict that lasted from 1914 to 1918. Canada enlisted large numbers of soldiers as early as August 1914. Some 420,000 Canadians will cross the Atlantic to take part in one of the world's greatest military conflicts. The Canadian army earned international respect as an elite troop. It won numerous victories, notably at Vimy in 1917. The conflict also brought difficult times, with conscription dividing the country and the loss of 60,000 soldiers. Mélanie Morin-Pelletier of the Canadian War Museum tells us about Canada's role in this conflict.
