Raconte-moi la Grande Guerre - Le rôle des femmes
Bruno Cabanes, a professor at Ohio State University, explains the role played by women during the first world conflict. They were forbidden to enroll in the army, but they have contributed in many ways to the war effort, particularly in Canada. Some went close to the front as nurses, others ensured the sustainability of economic activity or engaged in internal military organizations to maintain national security... The participation of women in this war will have major consequences for their emancipation because during that time, in the absence of men, women worked jobs hitherto inaccessible to them. In some countries, their vital role during the First World War will give them access to the right to vote, particularly in Canada, England, Germany and Austria.
