Jacques Surette
Accompanied by his faithful four-legged friend Buddy, Jacques Surette takes us on a tour of his homeland, specifically Surette Island, a place he likes to visit to escape the daily grind. We then stroll through the streets of Yarmouth where he grew up, passing the first stage he ever played on. At the family home, Jacques and his father, renowned musician Éric Surette, delve back into the past, looking through old photos. The father, who makes no secret of his delight at having a son who shares his passion, recalls his early days on the guitar. Jacques tells us that it was at the age of 16 that he too decided to take the music route, first testing the waters by uploading a few songs in English on social media, before turning more to French. The Nova Scotian, often described as an old soul, performs three songs for us, including "Marche, marche, marche" which launched his young career. Our stroll takes us to the premises of CIFA community radio, a veritable rallying medium for the region's French-speaking artists, where Jacques takes part in a show with his compatriot Daniel Leblanc from the group Grand Dérangement.
