Reney Ray

Reney Ray has had her share of trials to overcome in her life. After her father's suicide in her teens and becoming a single mother at 18, Reney turned to music to help heal her pain and move on. A singer-songwriter from Kapuskasing in northern Ontario, she moved to Quebec to raise her daughter, Zacharie. In this episode, Reney returns to her hometown and visits important places with her daughter: her first apartment; Chez Lizette restaurant, which features a large Reney Ray poster; the hydroelectric dam; and the cemetery where her father is buried. According to Reney, it was her parents, who always sang at home, who bequeathed her musical talent. Today, the artist plays for pleasure and to share with others, whereas she did so out of a visceral need when she was a teenager. Long-time friends, who still live in Kapuskasing, describe Reney as a genuine person of unequivocal generosity. Reney proudly presents her past, a journey that was difficult but foreshadowed what she has become: an accomplished woman and a loving mother.
