Kimya
Kimya (his name means peace in Lingala), is a rap and slam artist living in the Ottawa region of Ontario. He immigrated to Canada from the Congo at the age of 14, in search of a better future for himself and the family members left behind, including his parents. It was music that enabled him to achieve this goal. His musical beginnings were modest. He took part in the end-of-program shows at Camp de l'Amitié, the summer camp where he worked. He has come a long way since then, winning the Trille Or Découverte de l'année 2019 award in 2019. When he lived in the Congo, his dreams for the future were different. Coming from a family of architects, he couldn't see himself doing anything else. Life turned out differently, but for Kimya, there's a correlation between architecture and music. Buildings can inspire future generations, as can music. His love of music has enabled him to learn how to better communicate his emotions, to get across the messages that are dear to him.
